Actress and playwright Shelagh Stephenson (born in Northumberland) appeared on Coronation Street during February and April 1981 as Jim's Cafe employee Sandra Webb.

Reading drama at Manchester University, she has been credited onscreen for roles in Rumpole's Return, Sapphire & Steel, The Gentle Touch, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Boon, Paradise Postponed and Big Deal.

Penning episodes of Casualty and Downton Abbey, she has also scripted stage plays including The Memory of Water (which was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 2000 for Best New Comedy), An Experiment with an Air Pump, Ancient Lights, Five Kinds of Silence, Mappa Mundi and The Long Road.

Her plays for BBC Radio include Darling Peidi, Five Kinds of Silence (which was awarded the Writers Guild Award for Best Original Drama), Life is a Dream, Nemesis and The People's Princess. Shelagh was also a scriptwriter on BBC Radio 4's drama series Citizens.
