Sidney Barlow was the husband of Edna, the father of Marjorie and Frank and the paternal grandfather of Ken and David Barlow.
Sidney signed up as a naval officer and then settled at the GPO with his son following in his footsteps. When Sidney died, his wife was unable to cope and suffered a nervous breakdown. Frank left the navy out of family loyalty and Edna was allowed back to the family home of 6 Mawdsley Street following three months of treatment in a psychiatric hospital.
