In the first of their two appearances, they were in their credited role of church choir singers, supposedly making the rounds of hospital wards to sing carols for the patients and Ena Sharples, in bed after a sudden collapse, was forced to curtail her row with Martha Longhurst over her supposedly taking over her job at the Mission of Glad Tidings to hear them sing Silent Night.
One episode later, they were back as a group of schoolchildren on the Street itself to sing New Year Carols, supposedly encouraged to do so by their absent teacher. In this second episode, they were accompanied by two schoolgirls played by Elisabeth Butler and Joy Nicholson.
The seven boys in the choir were tutored for their appearance by their choirmaster, H. Winterbottom. The location of their church is unknown unless the reference is to St. John the Baptist Church in Lees, within the parish of Oldham. Otherwise it is supposed that it was a church that has since been demolished like much of the terraced communities that used to exist in the area in the early 1960s.
