The St Agnes Amateur Operatic Society, based at the Weatherfield Lyceum, was an organisation at which Anne Beaumont resumed her burgeoning operatic career when her family moved to Weatherfield in 1930. The group was named after the St. Agnes's Church which had previously stood on the site of the Lyceum. The opera producer was Edgar Nuttall, who soon realised Annie's potential and in 1932 gave her the lead in Mayfair Melody. When Annie and Jack Walker took over the Rovers Return, it was on the condition that it would not interfere with her career, but two years later the group was disbanded anyway for the duration of the war.
