Valerie Skardon (born 14th April 1913 as Valerie Woodings in Jarrow, died 30th December 2010 in Harrogate) appeared in Coronation Street in April 1961 as Miami Modes supervisor Mrs Dumbarton, a part played eighteen months later by Diana Coupland.

She began acting under her stage name when she was 18. Her early work was in Bridlington and Scarborough and she was in her early 20s when she joined White Rose Players in weekly rep in Harrogate, working in her time alongside Trevor Howard and Arnold Ridley. Her favourite parts were as Eliza Dolittle in Pygmalion, which she played in the opening production at Sheffield Rep, and the play called Escape Me Never.

Although northern-based Mrs Skardon had few television appearances, she was prolific in her radio work for the BBC in Manchester appearing in many productions from the late 1940s to the 1980s, among them Midweek Theatre and Afternoon Theatre as well as dramatisations of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, North and South and several Children's Hour presentations.
