The Verger of St. Mary's Church panicked on the day that Albert Tatlock and Alice Pickins were due to get married in September 1969 as the vicar, the Reverend Vernon Lingard was nowhere to be seen. Unbeknownst to him, the vicar’s ancient car had broken down in a remote country lane. As time wore on, the Verger told the wedding party that another couple were waiting and Emily Nugent suggested saving time by having the photographs taken first. In the event, the vicar was so late that the wedding was called off.
