Vernon Joyner (born 16th December 1930 in East Stonehouse, Devon; died 14th May 2002 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent) appeared on Coronation Street between April and July 1964 as Lay Preacher Stuart Hodges, who took over from Leonard Swindley at the Glad Tidings Mission Hall. He returned to the role briefly in January of the following year.

His other credits include Out of the Unknown, The Man in Room 17, Harry Worth, Softly Softly, Ivanhoe, Love Thy Neighbour, Poldark, Secret Army, The Rag Trade and The Devil's Crown.

He joined the BBC repertory company in 1973 and appeared in many productions of BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Theatre, Midweek Theatre and Saturday-Night Theatre. In these, other strands and one-off plays, he starred in over one hundred productions until 1990.

On stage, he appeared in the Bill Freedman production Suddenly at Home at the Fortune Theatre, London.
