Victor Tandy appeared in Coronation Street in July 1961 as Blue Bell Garage customer George Layton and he returned in May 1963 as piano tuner Albert Battersby. He had previously been considered for the role of Albert Tatlock and had played that part in the first of the programme's two dry runs recorded on 18th November 1960.

His career lasted over half a century from roles in British silent films in the 1920s. His later television work was mainly for Granada Television with parts in series such as The Villains, Husbands and Lovers, Mr Rose and the 1973 adaptation of Shabby Tiger.
