The County Borough of Weatherfield was a borough representing the Lancashire township of Weatherfield near Manchester established in 1888. The borough provided the majority of local public services to the residents of Weatherfield until its abolition under the Local Government Act of 1972 when Weatherfield merged with neighbouring districts to form the Metropolitan Borough of Weatherfield within the county of Greater Manchester. Weatherfield's last Mayor was Alf Roberts who appointed Annie Walker as his Mayoress during his 1973-74 term of office. Len Fairclough was elected as a Weatherfield Councillor in 1966 with an objective to clear many of the slums within the town. The council was formally abolished on 1st April 1974.
