Weatherfield Rainwear was a factory business in Weatherfield where Deirdre Langton successfully applied for a job in March 1980 as a secretary. In doing so, she assumed that Emily Bishop was happy to child-mind three-year old Tracy Langton all day and it was only when an unhappy Emily made allusions to being trapped in the house all day that Deirdre realised her selfish attitude. She turned down the job but Alf Roberts gave her the idea of setting up doing secretarial work from 3 Coronation Street for small firms who couldn't afford full-time staff. Emily was also enthused by the idea, able to put to work her book-keeping talents and the Coronation Street Secretarial Bureau was founded.

Emily knew of Weatherfield Rainwear as a factory whose clock outside was always wrong.
