The Woman was inconvenienced by Percy Sugden's lock-down of the Community Centre in protest against his forced retirement from the role of caretaker by the council in May 1988. The woman arrived on time for her 2.00pm class but, along with the rest of the class, she was unable to gain access to the centre. When it became clear that the situation would not be resolved any time soon, she gave up and left, but not before putting the blame squarely with councillors Paul Hindley and Deirdre Barlow for the "typical council cock-up".
