The unnamed Woman in Hospital was in the casualty waiting room in July 1980 when Renee Roberts was brought in after the car she was driving was rammed by a speeding lorry. She was waiting with son, Sean, who had fallen off bike and broken his leg in two places, despite her repeated warnings about roads. Snapping at her son in his wheelchair, she threatened to “burn the bloody thing”. She sympathised with an anxious Alf Roberts saying it was bedlam in casualty as there had been two accidents brought in but happily gossiped behind his back that she could smell alcohol on his breath when P.C. White took him away for a breathalyser test.
