The Workman and his colleague were in the Rovers on the day that Bet Lynch was struggling alone when Annie Walker, Lucille Hewitt and Betty Turpin were at the installation of Alf Roberts as Mayor of Weatherfield and Billy Walker spent the day in a betting shop. Like Albert Tatlock he complained at the delay at getting served saying it was like the Sahara Desert and was told by Bet that he was a "mighty mouth" when the drinks were eventually handed over.
