The Young Man was a would-be victim of a proposed Weatherfield redevelopment scheme in 1974. When the residents of Coronation Street formed an action group and held a public meeting on the development at the Community Centre, they invited residents of the neighbouring streets along and the young man was among those who turned up. Prompted by a raucous speech by Ena Sharples condemning tower blocks for stacking people on top of each other, the man opined to the auditorium that someone was stacking pound notes on top of each other, and it wasn't any of them, referring to the fact that the council was selling their properties to a London developer fronted by Douglas Wormold. He was otherwise silent for the duration of the meeting.
